Hello stampers and welcome to a fresh new week at The Classic Card!
I hope that each one of you had a chance to slow down a bit over the weekend and just take a deep breath and relax. I know many of you lead very active and stressful lives and that you need a break from being "crazy busy." My hope is that you were able to carve out a few minutes of the weekend to play with your stamps. There's nothing like being creative to refresh your spirit!
For the next week or so, I'll be reviewing cards made from stamp sets that are retiring. Giving these sets a moment in the spotlight seems like the right thing to do, before they are gone for good. We have until the end of May to order stamp sets on the retired list. After that, you may be paying an exorbitant price on ebay for that special set you simply must have.
Today's set is "Kindness Matters" and it is a good reminder to treat ourselves as kindly as we treat others. Take a look ...
Of course that great striped grosgrain ribbon is long gone, but the Kindness Matters stamp set is still with us, for just a little while longer. You can see this great set on page 74 of the current annual catalog and it's only $8.95 for the 5 piece set. I've used this set over and over again and I'll be very sorry to see it go. Also retiring is the gorgeous Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder ( page 189 of the annual catalog). Again, this is a product that I've used often. In fact, I may not be able to part with it! I keep very few retired products, but this just might be one that I stash away in my cupboard of favorites.
The colors on this card are Very Vanilla, Early Espresso, and Daffodil Delight. Some sponging around the edge of the Daffodil Delight panel ups the vintage feel of this card.
Thanks for stopping by today! I'm off to Symposium Coffee to meet with the Stamp Out Stress group.
Hugs,
Susan

A Sunny Friday for You...
Hello my stampin' friends!
It's Friday, it's sunny, and it's all good! I don't know about you, but this sunny week has been good therapy for a sun-starved former Californian (that would be me). Oregon is beautiful all the time, but so much more beautiful in the sunshine.
It's been a very busy week for Stampin'Up! Demonstrators. First, we got a sneak peek of the new catalog, then we were able to order a few new items (new colors, a couple of new stamp sets), then the retiring stamp list was revealed, as well as the retiring accessories list and then we placed our orders for our boxes of new catalogs (the ones I'm going to give to YOU!) It was a crazy week, but a fun one! Seeing a new Stampin'Up! catalog for the first time is sooo exciting. You are going to love it! By the way, please take a close look at the retiring accessories list, as there are tons of good ribbons on sale, not to mention DSP, brads, and other accessories. These items should be ordered online, as the availability changes by the minute.
If that wasn't enough Stampin'Up! activity for the week, I also got together with other demonstrators at our monthly Stamp2gether. This month our swap theme was fun folds, so I received some cards that showcase "different" openings... ones that open in the center, off center, or have some other unique feature that sets them apart from ordinary cards that have the fold on the left. The card I'm sharing with you today is my swap card, but in the days ahead I'll be sharing some of the cards I received from other demonstrators in the group. Here is my sunny contribution to a sunny Friday...
I love, love, love the zig-zaggy chevron pattern in Parker's Patterns DSP. This fun paper is on page 20 of the spring catalog. The colors of card stock I used are Whisper White and Daffodil Delight. The stamps are from A Round Array, a spring special and the "You are my Sunshine" stamp is one of the single stamps that are available until the end of July. I'm not sure if this fold has an official name. I'm calling it a double Z fold. If you'd like the measurements for this card, please drop me an email and I'll send the directions right out to you. I stamped both sentiments in Early Espresso. For the 3-D flower, I punched two scalloped circles with the 1 3/4 inch Scallop Circle Punch. I carefully cut a little slit between each scallop, so I could pull the petals up a bit. The center of the flower was punched with the new 7/8 inch Scallop Punch which is in the spring catalog. I added a strip of the Stitched Grosgrain ribbon in Daffodil Delight for a nice vertical accent.
I hope your day is as fun and as sunny as this card! Happy Friday, everyone, and please come back on Monday when I'll be sharing another fun fold card with you.
Enjoy the weekend!

So Exciting!
Hello Stampers!
It's Wednesday here at The Classic Card and there's lots of excitement in the air if you are a stamping fanatic like me!
Last night at midnight Mountain Time (11pm our time), the new 2013-2014 Stampin'Up! catalog went online for demonstrators to see. Oh, and it's a gorgeous one, just full of new stamps, colors, accessories, and many, many new ideas. I'm sorry you can't see it yet, but I promise it will be worth the wait! The only reason demonstrators get to see it early is that we need to order some of the new products so we can start working with them, try them out for ourselves, and make samples to show you, our fabulous customers! So we are allowed to order a limited number of things.
Another exciting thing that was announced last night is the retiring stamp list. For customers, there's really no downside to the retiring stamp list, other than making sure you have all your favorites before they are gone forever. Of course there are many favorites that won't be around anymore, but I'm excited to have some NEW stamps to play with! We need to get rid of the old to make way for the new! Watch your email... I'll be sending out the list sometime today.
Don't forget, my annual Retirement Party is on Saturday, May 4th at 11am. This is your opportunity to make some cards with two of my favorite retiring sets, enjoy some yummy brunch treats, and of course order some wonderful stamps before they retire. There is no cost to attend! Come, stamp, and enjoy some time just for you! The cleaning, weeding, and grocery shopping can wait! You can send me a quick email or reply to the evite I sent.
Oh, did you come here hoping and expecting to see a card? Well, I can't let you down, so here's a card for you...
This photo isn't the best, so let me describe the colors for you. The base of the card is Basic Black, and the blue layer is Pool Party. I'm so very thankful that Pool Party is staying around as part of the Subtles family. I love how fresh and bright it is! The focal point is made with the baby wipe technique, a technique that's been around for a long time, but is still fun to do. First I cut an oval from Whisper White Glossy card stock. Using a tiny bit of double-stick tape on the back, I secured it to my scratch paper. Next I folded 2 baby wipes into a pad about 3 inches long and 2 inches thick. I used a binder clip (or you could use a clip that holds a bag of chips closed) to clamp over the little pad I created so as not to get my hands stained. I put a line of Pool Party ink along the folded edge of the baby wipe, then I added a shorter line of Daffodil Delight ink, and then a line of Pumpkin Pie ink. Then, holding the clip, I just swiped the baby wipe across the oval, creating the blended colors. After letting the paper dry for just a few moments, I stamped the image (it is from the set Love and Sympathy, page 54 of the annual catalog, only $11.95 in clear mount). in Jet Black Staz-On ink. The top of the Pool Party panel is embossed with the Fancy Fan embossing folder, but I left the bottom half plain so that the sentiment could be stamped on smooth paper. The ribbon is the Scallop Dots ribbon in Basic Black (page 172 of the annual catalog), just turned over so the solid side shows.
Once you've created your little custom-colored pad with the baby wipes and ink refills, why not use it several more times? So before you start, cut a few more ovals and make multiple cards. That way, you aren't wasting any ink. You can also re-ink the pad by just adding a few more drops of each color to your pad.
I'm getting off the computer now and heading to work in my stamp room. I have lots to do to get ready for the Flower Fair class that is coming up this Saturday at 1pm at my house. I still have room for 2 more, so if you'd like to come over and make 6 cute and colorful cards (and go home with a kit worth $15.95), please let me know. The cost for this class is $25. I would love it if you'd come and join us!
Hope you'll all have a wondrous Wednesday! Get outside and enjoy this fabulous weather, because the weather guy says it could start raining again on Saturday.
Hugs,
Susan

Manly Monday
Hello Stampers!
Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by The Classic Card today.
Today, in case you forgot (or didn't know) is Earth Day, 2013. I showed you a card last week with recycled corrugated cardboard. I'm wondering if you've tried finding some recycled paper or other recycled materials to use in card-making. By the way, did you know that your Big Shot will cut aluminum soda cans easily?
Just take a pair of utility scissors and cut the top and bottom out of an aluminum can. The bendy sheet that is left will cut very cleanly in the Big Shot if you are using one of the black foam-covered dies. A sizzlit is not strong enough to cut through the metal. It might be fun to experiment with a soda can and one of the black, foam-covered flower dies. A shiny metal flower might be a fun accent piece for a card!
Since we've already taken care of Earth Day, let's move on, shall we? Today I've got a great card for you that we made at Elena's party over the weekend. It's a fun card to make and would be fun to receive as well, because when you slide off the "belly band," the card opens up accordion style. There is room for a bit of writing, some stamping, and even a small photo or two. This was designed as a Father's Day card, but by changing the colors and the sentiments, it could be a birthday card, a baby announcement with photos of the new arrival, or just about anything you wish! Here you go... take a look.
The colors are Midnight Muse, Cajun Craze and Very Vanilla. The DSP is from the Comfort Cafe collection. The watch is from a new set in the spring catalog called Dapper Dad. If you would like to have the measurements and the instructions for making this card, just send me a quick email to sjrstamps@gmail.com and I'll email them out to you right away.
I'm so excited for Wednesday the 24th.... that's when the list of discontinued stamps comes out and as soon as I get it, I'll be mailing it on to you so you can see what is going away. Then I will be doing a massive purge of my stamp room, in preparation for my big garage sale, which you do not want to miss.! You'll be receiving more information about that as the time draws closer.
Unless the weatherman was just teasing us again, we are in for a great week of sunshine and I can't wait!
I plan to spend some time in the back yard just soaking up some of those awesome rays of golden light.
Please come back on Wednesday when I'll have another classic card for you!
Hugs,
Susan

Super Simple
Hello again, Stampers!
It's Friday, my very favorite day of the week! How about you, are you a Friday fan too? Even though I'm retired, I still love Fridays. They signal the start of the weekend and weekends are a time to relax, perhaps go out to dinner, attend an event, or---in my case--- party with stampers at a Stampin'Up! party!
What's on your calendar for the weekend? Please don't tell me you plan to clean house, do laundry, and weed the yard! Well, do those things if you must, but please don't spend the whole weekend that way or you might need to go back to work on Monday just to rest from your weekend labors.
I've got a very busy stampin' weekend ahead, so I can't linger too long here, but before I run off to tackle my to-do list, I have very quick and simple card to share with you today... one you could make in under 5 minutes.
Check it out...
The colors seem to be a bit "off " in this photo, but the actual colors are Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake, and Early Espresso. The flowers were stamped on Daffodil Delight DSP from the designer series paper stacks, page 162 of the annual catalog. I stamped them in Early Espresso, then punched them out with the new 7/8 inch Scallop Circle Punch that you can find on page 16 of the Spring Catalog. The daisy is from the "Best of Flowers" set (item # 133342, just $14.95 in clear-mount). The sentiment is from Sassy Salutations ( p. 143 of the annual catalog). The chevron patterned paper is from the Sunshine and Sprinkles DSP pack, page 28 of the Spring Catalog. I love the cheery look of this card and I think anyone who's under the weather would love to get a card like this. Why not get out your stamps and make a few get well cards? Then you'll be prepared the next time you need to send one.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! Don't forget to take some time to be creative, as time spent in creative pursuits really refreshes you! Enjoy!

If the Shoe Fits....
Hi there stampers! Thanks for coming by for a visit today!
I'm sure you've heard the saying "If the shoe fits, buy it in every color!" Well, today I have a shoe for you that will definitely fit many occasions. With a quick change of sentiment, it could be a friend card, a birthday card, a card for your daughter, or sister, or aunt. And of course it makes a perfect Mother's Day card too!
Pocket cards are perfect for any occasion that requires a gift, because you can easily tuck in a gift card, a gift certificate, concert tickets, etc. and there's no shopping or wrapping required!
We'll be making this fun pocket card at Elena's party this Saturday at my house. If you'd like to attend, please send me a quick message via email and I'll add your name to the list. Here you go, take a peek...
The colors I used are Regal Rose (one of the colors that is being discontinued), Whisper White, and Basic Black. This color combination is often used for feminine cards and it works particularly well with this shoe, as it is easy to stamp it in Jet Black Staz-On ink (it won't run or smear when you color it) and then just add accents of color here and there. For this card, I just colored the flowers with a Pink Pirouette marker. The center of each flower is accented with a rhinestone, which I colored pink with a permanent marker. If you wanted to, you could color each and every little tiny petal and leaf on the shoe, but I'm thinking your eyes might be permanently crossed when you finish.
The stamp set is called Fabulous You (page 39 of the annual catalog). It sells for just $11.95 in clear-mount. The sentiment is from Delightful Dozen (page 140 of the annual catalog). The black and white polka-dotted grosgrain ribbon adds a fun girly touch to the little pull-out panel, which is where you can write a short note and sign your name.
Well, I've got to run, as the Seattle troops are arriving this afternoon. Emma's school is on Spring Break and Amy is bringing the kiddos down for a couple of days. I'm hoping for nice weather so we can take the kids to the park. Please come back on Friday when I'll have another classic card for you!
Have a great Wednesday!

A Classic Combination
Hello there stampers!
Goodness! Here comes another Monday, ready or not! The weeks just keep swishing by and that's OK with me, as we are drawing ever nearer to summer--- my favorite time of year! But we do have about about 10 or 11 weeks of icky weather left to get through before we arrive in the season of sunshine, cookouts, beach trips, fireworks, ice cream cones, sandals, flowers, bullfrogs, and watermelon. Just think of all the good things we have to look forward to! Meanwhile, we can keep ourselves entertained and keep our minds off the bad weather by indulging in our favorite addiction.... stamping!
I'm sure you've heard me say more than once that I'm "not a blue person." I've just never been a huge fan of blue, but it is starting to grow on me. Perhaps it's just old age creeping up on me, but I have to admit that I'm becoming fond of the classic color combination of blue and white, perhaps because it reminds me a bit of summer. For whatever reason, a couple of days ago I decided to try a simple blue and white card and I loved how it turned out so I thought I'd share it with you to see if you like it too.
It's a very simple card... just some Midnight Muse flowers on a Whisper White background with a simple ribbon accent. You could easily make this card in under 10 minutes, possibly in under 5 minutes. I don't have a stopwatch so I can't tell you exactly how long it took me, but not long at all. Take a peek and you'll see how simple it is...
The flowers are from the Elements of Style set, page 113 of the annual catalog. I stamped them in Midnight Muse ink on a Whisper White panel, wrapped it with some Midnight Muse Stitched Satin ribbon, then adhered the panel to a Midnight Muse panel. I slipped a long piece of ribbon underneath and tied it in a simple bow. The sentiment is from the stamp set "Kindness Matters," page 74 of the annual catalog. I stamped it on a Whisper White scrap and punched it out with the Large Oval Punch and then adhered it to a Midnight Muse scrap punched with the Extra Large Oval punch (both punches can be found on page 184 of the annual catalog). With a change of sentiment, this card could work for just about any occasion, except for a manly card. You know my rules about those.... never flowers and never, never, never a bow!
Here's an idea for you, in case you have nothing else to do this fine Monday. Get out your stamps, some white card stock, and some ink and stamp up a set of cards like this. You could use Cherry Cobbler and White, Always Artichoke and White, Early Espresso and White, and/or Old Olive and White. Vary the sentiments... Happy Birthday, Thinking of You, Get Well, Thank You... then package them up with some envelopes in a clear cello bag and you'll have a lovely gift to give the next time you meet a friend for lunch or coffee. Of course if you need any supplies for this project, you know who to call, right?
Well, friends, I'm off to Curves to do my Monday morning penance and seek forgiveness for the sins of the weekend (breakfast at Hayden's). Hope you'll have a creative and productive Monday. Thanks for being my readers and I hope you'll come back on Wednesday when I will attempt to inspire you with more stamping ideas.
Hugs,
Susan

Reduce, Re-use, Recycle
Hello there my stamping friends and happy Friday!
I'm excited that the weekend is almost here and I'm looking forward to some relaxing and creative stamping time with Holly and friends and their daughters! It should be fun! I'm hoping you have some plans for relaxing and recharging over the weekend too.
In just a few days, we'll be observing Earth Day 2013 (Monday April 22nd). Were any of you around for the very first Earth Day in 1970? As I recall, the first Earth Day was a pretty big deal and even though we're recycling more than ever and we're more energy conscious and we're more environmentally aware than we were in 1970, poor old Mother Earth seems to be in worse shape. We definitely need to do more to protect her!
In honor of Earth Day 2013, I've got a card that features a recycled element. I encourage you to look around you and see what you might be able to recycle and add to a card. Of course it goes without saying that you should save your scraps of card stock and designer paper. I like to keep all of my scraps of colored card stock in a plastic page protector and then I place it in my file cabinet along with the full sheets of card stock. Then when I need a piece of paper, I always check the scraps first to see if there's a smaller piece of paper that I can use instead of cutting into a full sheet. I know I'm saving lots of paper since I started filing my scraps away for future use.
So let's get right to the card and then I'll give you a few details...
By the way, the little white label with my name on it is there to comply with Stampin'Up! rules that say all cards posted on the internet should have the "copyright by Stampin'Up!" statement on them. You'll be seeing this little label from now on, but it is not part of the card. I guess the first thing you might notice about this card, other than the strange little white label, is the rather unorthodox color combination. I checked my Stampin'Up! color coach and no, this color combination is not one that the color coach suggests. I took my inspiration from a pillow I saw in a catalog. I'm a big fan of Summer Starfruit and I love the way it looks with the corrugated kraft paper and Early Espresso. If you're someone who says they hate Summer Starfruit, I think you might be won over when you see how beautifully it combines with some of the other Stampin'Up! colors, such as Midnight Muse and Early Espresso.
The Top Note shape was cut from a piece of corrugated cardboard that was used as packing material in a set of appetizer plates that I purchased at Crate & Barrel. I loved the texture and color of the paper and I brought it right up to my stamp room, where it's been stashed away for over a year. As I was looking around for an idea for an Earth Day card, this cardboard caught my eye. Now I wish I had more of it so I could use this idea for a class.
Here's a quick list of the supplies I used:
Stamp Sets: Mixed Bunch, p. 94 of the big catalog, 21.95
One in a Million, p. 135 of the big catalog, 18.95
Paper: Early Espresso Card Stock, Summer Starfruit Card Stock
Ink: Early Espresso
Accessories: Top Note Die for the Big Shot, p. 193, 21.95
Decorative Label Punch, p. 182, 16.95
Blossom Punch. p. 185, 16.95
Neutral Brads, p. 174, 6.95
3/4 inch circle punch, p. 184, 12.95
Summer Starfruit Stitched Satin Ribbon, p. 172, 8.95
I love the way this spur-of-the-moment card turned out and I hope you do too. Please leave me a comment and tell me if you're going to try out this color combination. I hope you'll have time to be creative this weekend, if not in your stamp room, then in the kitchen or the garden, or perhaps at your sewing machine! There are so many ways to live a creative life and the more creative we are, the happier we are!
Enjoy the weekend and please come back on Monday for more stamping inspiration.
Hugs,
Susan

Time to Play
Hello stampers! Thanks for coming back for a visit!
Have you ever run across this quote..."There's no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is when you have lots to do and not doing it."? This little gem of wisdom is attributed to Andrew Jackson, but it sounds more like Mary Engelbreit to me. Well, no matter who said it, I think it just might be true. Usually I'm super conscientious and have a well-thought-out plan for making sure that I get everything done, not just on time, but early! I do have quite a bit on my plate right now, and for that I'm very grateful. Without my upcoming stamping parties and classes, my business would be dead. But last night I decided to "play" with stamps I've seldom used, and I've got a pile of them. They sit on my counter and taunt me, so last night I decided to get some of those little-used stamps inky. I felt just the tiniest bit guilty playing around when I have a long to-do list, but not really. I think we all need to take a break from the cooking, the cleaning, the ironing, or whatever we routinely do and engage in something resembling play. Playing is refreshing! A change in routine is refreshing!
So, here is a card that I made last night while playing around with little-used stamps.
This very clean and simple card features a set called Raining Flowers ( page 73 of the big catalog). It was one of the stamp sets we got in our convention bags last year and it is a set I probably would never have chosen. It has both solid and line-art stamps in the set and I'm going to play with it again very soon. It is the kind of set that is perfect for making a masterboard. I'll work on that in the coming days and come up with something fun to show you. Meanwhile, let me give you a quick description of the colors:
Cardstock: Pool Party, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla
Ink: Old Olive (stamped off once), Pool Party, Early Espresso
Sentiment: Sassy Salutations
Ribbon: Ruffled Ribbon in Pool Party
Please come back on Friday to see a new favorite color combination... I think you'll like it. But until then, I suggest you go play!
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Susan

Rainy Day Stampin'
Hellooo stampers!
It's Monday once again and of course, it's a rainy Monday too! I guess we could get all cranky, crabby, and generally pushed out of shape and no one would blame us. But today I have a better idea! Let's think of all the good things about rain. I think I can name a few:
1. We don't have to worry about drought. Seriously, there's a whole section of the country that is facing the worst drought in years.
2. We don't have to spend a lot of $$ watering our lawns and gardens.
3. Everything is beautifully green.
4. The rain washes the pollen out of the air, which helps those who suffer with allergies.
5. All the moisture ( and lack of sun) is good for our complexions. It is easier to have young-looking skin when the sun hasn't touched it in years!
6. We don't have to worry as much about skin cancer as people in California, Arizona, and all those other sunny spots.
7. When it's raining, you can stay inside and stamp instead of having to go outside and pull weeds.
See, there's lots to be happy about when it's raining and let's just keep reminding ourselves of all of these happy things as rainy April, showery May, and soggy June drag on and on.
OK, so now that you have a cheery attitude about rain, let's get to the card.
I know that real Oregonians don't use umbrellas. I figured this out early on and now that I've lived here for 23+ years, I no longer care if I look like a real Oregonian or not. I think using a really cute, bright umbrella could do a lot to lift anyone's spirits on a gray, rainy day. And I think receiving a fun card like this could also give someone a much-needed lift as well. Why not purchase this cute stamp set and fun paper and make a few cards like this to send to fellow waterlogged Oregonians? Here's the info you need:
Stamp Set: Rain or Shine, 126777, 15.95 in clear mount
Designer Paper: Sunshine and Sprinkles, 126922, 10.95
Daffodil Delight Stamp Pad: 126944, 5.95
Marina Mist Stamp Pad: 126962, 5.95
Ribbon: 3/8 in. Striped Organdy, 129292, Marina Mist, 9.95
Card Stock: Daffodil Delight, 119683, 6.95
Basic Rhinestones: 119246, 4.95
Scallop Squares Duo Bigz Die, 120903, 21.95
FREE SHIPPING continues through 10:59 tonight (Monday night), so it won't cost you a cent to have these supplies shipped directly to you. I promise, it will still be raining when you receive your stamps and accessories and there will be no need to feel guilty while you unpack your goodies and get right to stamping some fun cards. The weeds will wait. (Hint: to color the rhinestones, you'll need to use a permanent marker, such as a Sharpie).
You can order by clicking on the "shop now" button at the top of the blog. That will take you directly to my online store (www.susanrodgers.stampinup.net).
May you all have a wonderful Monday! Thanks for stopping in today and I hope you'll come back for another visit on Wednesday. Who know what marvelous things I'll have to show you then???
Hugs,
Susan

Stampin'Up! does it again!
Hello stampers and welcome to Friday! I'm sorry it is gray and rainy--- I know that none of us really want to look out and see that sort of weather, especially after the glorious weekend we had last week. As the saying goes "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." That thought applies to so much of life. Not just the little things like sunny weekends, but also the big things---like when your kids leave the nest, or a relationship comes to an end, or any number of circumstances.
I'm planning to be busy with stamping this weekend, so maybe I won't even notice that the weather is less than ideal! On Saturday at 1 pm, I'll be busy with my Beautiful Butterflies class. It's been a while since I've had an event here, and I'm ready to get back to stamping. I still have one opening for the class, due to a cancellation, so if you'd like to join us, you are more than welcome to attend. Just send me a quick email to sjrstamps@gmail.com and I'll save the spot for you!
Today Stampin'Up! made two big announcements. First, they announced what they call a "Color Refresh," where they retire some colors and bring other colors back. Here's a chart of the returning colors. All but one of these have been seen before. The really new color is called Smoky Slate and it looks like a very nice gray-ish beige... a nice taupe. I've been a big fan of taupe for a long time... even had a house painted taupe with white trim, so I think I'm going to love working with Smoky Slate!
And here's a list of the retiring colors: Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgundy, Not Quite Navy, More Mustard, and River Rock. If you'd like to use these retiring colors in the future, be sure to order ink pads, refills, card stock, and ribbon as soon as you possibly can. I'm thinking that they will sell out quickly and when the supplies are gone, they're gone. Don't delay too long, or you might be a very unhappy stamper!
The second big announcement today is that Stampin'Up! is offering FREE SHIPPING on all orders placed on April 6 through the 8th. If you like to stay up late on Friday night, you can order just after midnight (which will make it Saturday)The free shipping offer ends just before midnight on Monday the 8th. Remember, Stampin'Up! is one hour ahead of us, so plan accordingly when placing your online order. The free shipping is good on all orders (orders placed at a class or workshop and online orders. There is no minimum purchase required to get the free shipping and if you're placing an order online, you can also add clearance items to your order.
OK, you've been patient with all of the announcements, so now let's get to the card. Today is the kind of day that needs something bright and pretty to perk us up, so I'll be showing you this fun card from the Flower Fair class that's happening on Saturday April 27th.
I love the warmth of the Tangerine Tango background and the bright and flowery DSP that comes in the Flower Fair Simply Scrappin' Kit. I added some Scallop Dotted ribbon in Tangerine Tango and then lined up three squares that I punched from Regal Rose, Garden Green, and Daffodil Delight card stock using the Scallop Square punch. The flowers are straight from the kit.... just peel off and stick on. So easy!
Since we cannot rely on the weather to give us a boost of sunny optimism, we're just going to have to do it ourselves. I suggest getting out your brightest card stock and your most flowery DSP and a set of flowery stamps and then just get busy creating. The bright colors will give you a burst of energy and you might not even notice the rain! If you need help with layouts, go to www.mojomonday.blogspot.com for layout ideas.
Have a great weekend, everyone, and please come back on Monday for more stamping inspiration.
Hugs,
Susan

Flower Fair Fun
Hi there, stampin' peeps!
Thanks for stopping by The Classic Card on this fine Wednesday!
Despite what the weather man said about Tuesday being cloudy, I thought it turned out rather nicely, with the sun shining more than I thought it would. I even spent about an hour on the porch in the sun, until a big ol' black cloud blocked the sun and it became too chilly. Let's hope for an "in and out" kind of day today too! I'm happy if there's even a bit of sun!
Today I'll be showing you another card that you'll make if you come to my Flower Fair Class on Saturday, April 27th. As you might remember, this class is based on the Flower Fair Simply Scrappin' Kit that is featured in the spring catalog. The kit comes with 8 sheets of colored card stock, so if you cut those sheets into quarters, you can make 32 cards with the solid card stock (using white card stock for your card base). It also comes with 6 6x6 sheets of DSP. You'll have all 6 of the sheets left in your kit, because the only things you'll be using from your own personal Simply Scrappin' Kit will be some of the flower stickers, some of the ribbon, and some of the buttons. You'll still have leftovers of those embellishments to take home.
The cost of the class is $25, but 17.55 of that is the Flower Fair Simply Scrappin' Kit ($15.95 plus 1.60 for shipping). Of course I'll be feeding you some yummy snacks and there'll be some fun door prizes too, so I hope you'll sign up to join us for this relaxing and creative afternoon.
Here's today's card
The card stock colors are Regal Rose, Daffodil Delight, and Whisper White. The flower was punched out with the Fancy Flower punch. I punched out two, cut between the petals so I could bend them up, and then I put both flowers through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder. I added a Daffodil Delight center cut with the Floral Fusion Sizzlit (page 191 of the annual catalog). Then I added one of the buttons that comes in the kit threaded with some white baker's twine (page 172 of the annual catalog). I sponged the edges of the petals with some Pretty in Pink ink. The Regal Rose ink is just too dark, so don't do what I did and ruin a flower with it! The leaves are stickers from the kit. It's so easy to just peel them off and stick them on.
I cut out the large circle with the 3 1/2 " Circle Originals die ( page 193 of the annual catalog), then used the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder on it too. The DSP that I used for the banner comes in the kit. I sponged around the edge of it with the Pretty in Pink ink to give a bit more definition to the edge of it. My favorite set of sayings--Teeny Tiny Wishes came to my rescue once again. I stamped in Regal Rose, then punched with the Modern Label Punch, then sponged the edges in Pretty in Pink. This card came together quickly with the Mojo Monday layout # 214. If you are getting tired of trying to think up new layouts or sketches for your cards, you should give Mojo Monday a try. You can find it at www.mojomonday.blogspot.com.
Have a great Wednesday, everyone! And please meet me back here on Friday, when I'll have another bright and flowery card to cheer you up. Who knows? The weather man says it is supposed to rain on Friday, so you may well need something cheery to look at!
Hugs,
Susan

Hugs,
Susan

Flowers, flowers, and more flowers!
Hello stamping friends! Happy Monday and Happy April Fool's Day!
Wasn't yesterday a glorious Easter? With the promise of a sunny Easter celebration, I didn't even mind getting up early! I hope your day was wonderful as well. Today we head into April and you know what they say about April showers... ("April showers bring May flowers") Well, if you don't mind, April can keep its showers to itself. I'd like sunshine, please! As for the flowers, I've got those all taken care of. I've been a busy bee working on a "Flower Fair" class just for you and I'll be showing you some of the cards over the next few days.
This class is based on the Flower Fair Simply Scrappin' Kit which you can see on page 31 of the spring catalog. I love the bright and sunny colors in this kit... Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Regal Rose, and Garden Green. You'll make 6 great cards and envelopes are included. Each participant will get a full Flower Fair kit which sells for 15.95 and there will be lots of paper, ribbon, and embellishments left over after the 6 cards are finished. I estimate that you'll have enough paper left over to make at least 16 additional cards, if not more.
Date: Saturday, April 27th
Time: 1 pm
Place: Susan's house
Cost: $25 which includes the Flower Fair Kit ($15.95) I will need your payment by Wednesday, April 17th so that I can order all of the kits and receive them well before the class on the 27th.
Of course I'll have some great snacks for you, so that you can keep your energy up as you busily complete the six cards. I'll be sending out an evite for this class, which makes it super-easy to RSVP. I look forward to hearing that you'll be here for the fun on April 27th!
Now let's get to the first card, shall we?
The bright colors just seem to sing out "spring" don't they? I used the two different patterns of DSP in the kit for the panels, then added a Labels Collection Framelit shape, stamped with one of the sentiments from the Sassy Salutations set in Regal Rose. I used the Flower Fusion Sizzlet to make the flower in the upper left, then popped it up on a dimensional. The Garden Green taffeta ribbon that I wrapped around the taller panel comes in the kit, so coordinating the embellishments is easy.
If you've never used a scrappin' kit to make cards, you are going to love how easily and quickly cards come together with one of these kits. Cut some paper, emboss it, add some DSP and some flower embellishments, stamp the sentiment of your choice and perhaps add a bit of ribbon and you're done! Cards are easy, fast, and fun when you use a scrappin' kit!
Have a great Monday and don't forget to come back on Wednesday when I'll show you another fun card from the Flower Fair class!
Hugs,
Susan
